A solid CSR strategy is essential for positioning your organisation as a sustainability leader, engaging the entire team in a shared purpose, and standing out in an increasingly globalised market.
There are four key steps to define this strategy, implement it, and ensure its continuous improvement.
Definition of CSR objectives aligned with the SDGs
To define priorities for taking a strategic approach to CSR, we follow these steps:
- Assess relevant stakeholder issues, taking into account the current, potential, positive and negative impacts that your business activities have on the SDGs.
- Assess the current system in place and its alignment with Social Responsibility and the Sustainable Development Goals. We can incorporate the requirements for a Social Responsibility certificate into your management system.
- Define the objectives and commitments to be met, after analysing the current situation of the company and its relationship with the zero emissions targets and the SDGs. These can be incorporated into your business plan or your ISO certificate.
- Select ESG indicators and strategies. This involves choosing specific social responsibility KPIs to include in the scorecard, on which a strategy will be defined, which can be incorporated into the Strategic Plan.
- Communication of Social Responsibility commitments. This involves communicating publicly (through the website, in accordance with digital marketing, for example) or through a GRI report, your commitment to the SDGs and Social Responsibility.
It must be borne in mind that the company’s commitments must be realistic, as it will have to act accordingly to ensure its integrity and reputation.
The official SGD guide explains in detail how to integrate the company’s strategy with the SDGs in Spain.
Planning projects and actions
This step describes how your company can translate CSR objectives into daily actions that involve the entire company. The definition of the CSR strategy and the steps to implement it are:
- Strategic planning of the different projects chosen. These may be linked to the Equal Opportunities Plan, Mobility Plan or the implementation of Corporate Compliance requirements, among others.
- Organisation and coordination of the different parties involved in the project (NGOs, employees, social entities, etc.).
- Team management and definition of specific tasks.
- Internal communication of the different CSR actions through marketing (website announcement, email, leaflet, etc.).
These steps must be carried out on an ongoing basis.
Drafting of the CSR report
Drafting a GRI sustainability report in accordance with GRI standards.
- A report reflecting the organisation’s economic, social and environmental performance, its past results and future objectives, and the strategies to be followed to achieve the latter.
- Preparation of the sustainability report based on the current version of GRI standards (certifiable).
- Mapping of priorities in the SDG report through materiality.
- Possibility of layout and translation of the report.
Goal tracking
Ensure the evaluation and continuous improvement of CSR actions through qualitative and quantitative analysis of objectives.
- Analysis of compliance with objectives and KPIs.
- Definition and implementation of improvement actions.
